The Wheel of Golf Habits
When we mistakenly assume we are our limited thoughts and beliefs, suffering is not far behind.
1. Thought: “I don’t like the tee-shot on this hole.”
2. Desire: “I want to get it over with quickly.”
3. Action: Grip pressure increases.
4. Experience: The swing tempo is out of control.
5. Impression: “There’s something wrong with my swing.”
6. Embedded attitude/perspective: “I don’t trust my driver anymore.”
1. Thought: “I’m a terrible golfer. Why do I even bother.”
— Versus —
1. Thought: “I’ve practiced and prepared for this shot.”
2. Desire: “I’m excited to use my new skill.”
3. Action: Effortless, confident motion.
4. Experience: Drive is in the fairway.
5. Impression: Self-assured and lower adrenaline/stress levels.
6. Embedded attitude/perspective: “I am confident with my driver.”
1. Thought: “I’m progressing. This is fun.”
Continuing to monitor the quality of our mind is the foundation for progress and enjoyment on the links. Grow the “inner caddy.” Fire the “inner critic.” More to come…
