May The Golf Forces Be With You
Inspired by Star Wars, we must harness our “Golf Jedi” and work with the THREE INNER FORCES that propel us down the fairway to our potential:
- Motivation. We must have the fire and intense discipline to put the effort into maintaining and improving our game. This will be UNCOMFORTABLE. We must push ourselves to the edge for progress. GOLF IS NOT FOR THE LAZY PERSON. How do you stay enthusiastic about your game?
- Self Study. Learning the appropriate level of pushing ourselves (to avoid burnout), studying our past rounds, weaknesses and strengths and mental habits. What comes up when you are between clubs? After you have just 3 putted? What happens when you are uncomfortable on the course?
- Trust. The practice of letting go and surrendering to the process is simple, but far from easy! The active force of letting go of outcome, concepts and forcing golf shots is a tremendously hard thing to do, but is a powerful skill to master. (As many of my students know, commit to ‘L-F-F’: Let the F#@er Fly!) What area of your game needs a little ‘LFF’?
Saving the Jedi Empire from the Dark Side might not be next week’s tournament format, but we can still fight our evil inner self’s sabotaging tendencies with the strength of a Golf Jedi. May the golf forces be with you. . .
