The Twisting Cart Path of Success
| “Nobody ever promised to keep reality tidy.” -Michael Murphy |
| The Twisting Cart Path of SuccessGolf is a training ground. Similar to life’s roller coaster ride of good and bad events, the golf experience is not immune to the bumpy cart path of progress. “Overnight” success usually takes ten years. For instance, we make considerable progress with our game, finally breaking 80, and then shoot 99 the next round. Or we’re hitting the fairways with our driver only to have our putting performance fall apart. These stumbling blocks, unfortunately, happen to everyone! How do we handle the backslides, detours, and roadblocks along the way? Take a deep breath and shift perspective. The obstacles are not actual impediments to practice but are the practice itself. We learn to hit from divots. We dig our feet into the bunker and get messy. We courageously take-on the doubt, worry, and indecision that sabotages our focus. These actions are how we drive our way down the bumpy fairways of development. Our overnight success may take longer than expected; however, we can save ourselves time (and suffering) by fearlessly undertaking the ever-present twist and turns of golf’s fickle cart path to success. Consistently reminding ourselves, the obstacles are the path. |
