The Power of Threes. Part 1
Both mentally and physically, the power of three can improve our enjoyment of the game and expedite our ability to self-coach.
Mentally
Memories are said to be stored three times more powerfully when there is an emotion associated with an event, rather than a neutrally emotional event. This is both good and bad news when it comes to golf.
After an incredible shot, we are filled with positive, happy emotions. These feelings intertwine with the memory, making it a powerful asset for our future shots. Whenever we need a boost, we can tap into those positive memories and enhance our performance
Unfortunately, if we happen to associate a negative emotion with a shot (which sadly tends to happen more often), that memory becomes a menacing presence three times more powerfully than a neutral reaction to a missed shot.
While positive emotions fuel our progress, negative ones can hold us back. It’s essential to be aware of this duality and the power of threes.
