Backswing Checkpoint 101:

Q: How long should the backswing be?
A: When it comes to the length of the backswing, the “textbooks” suggest that it should end parallel to the ground. However, this standard may not apply to all golfers, as they have different levels of spine flexibility.
While it may vary from player to player, it’s generally advisable to avoid going too far past parallel for the sake of consistency. This is particularly important when the arms move independently from the torso, as it can lead to a loss of power and inconsistency. Contrary to popular belief, extending the backswing beyond parallel doesn’t always translate into more yardage.
It’s time to hit the gym!
