Balanced FUN-damental
Don’t underestimate the power of a balanced follow-through.
Good players finish with an efficient and consistent ending position. Their follow-through maintains balance on the front foot (left side for right-handed players) with very little weight on the back foot.
If this isn’t occurring, look for patterns of disparity. For example, if you are constantly falling back/away from the target, check to see if you are “swaying” or generating too much weight shift on the backswing. Finishing with excessive weight on the right/back foot can also indicate the arms are taking over during the downswing and the lower body motion is inefficient.
To develop any new skill, an instrument for accurate feedback is useful. Implement the experience of evaluating balance during the follow-through to asses lower body accuracy . . . and enjoy a few more yards off the tee!
